On Thursday we learned that Robin would, indeed, become a resident of Kaiser San Francisco for the next three to four weeks as we await the birth of our first baby. I asked Robin if she wanted to go out (burger at the bar at Spruce? Chicken at Zuni Cafe?) or have dinner in.
Dinner in, friends, fun. That was the answer.
Some friends were able to stop by last minute and join us for a great pizza and bruchetta dinner. The highlight of the menu was the asparagus, bacon, burrata with crispy balsamic shallots, a take off from this NY Times recipe.
(thanks for taking the pic, Mikey)
Right after Win and Dini’s visit, my best friend from Camp Kieve days, Pete LaCasse came to visit. Robin and I loved catching up and hearing from his awesome wife SPAT on the phone. She was in the “you are crazy” camp for choosing not to find out if we are having a boy or girl. It was fun to hear her voice for the first time in a long time.
On the plate for Pete was Asparagus and Gruyere Tart, crab cakes and salad. Simple, quick and yummy.
Until recently I had forgotten about this dead simple dinner from Martha Stewart. It takes less than 15 minutes to prepare and about 30 minutes in the oven. I served with with a simple green salad.
Asparagus Gruyere Tart
Three for three from Heidi Swanson’s Super Natural Every Day. The weeknight curry was incredibly quick and very tasty. Even though I am still battling quite a bat cold and not feeling well, I was able to get dinner on the table and do most of the dishes in under 30 minutes.
Tonight is also a great example of why we shop ahead. I am not feeling well, Robin has report cards to write (11 down, 11 to go) and take out was tempting. We already had the food and the plan so it was easy to stick with the plan.
Super Natural Every Day is going to be under a few Knavis Christmas Trees. Great recipes, vegi and fast!
